Thermador Control Panel Problems
A control panel that has gone blank, stopped responding to touch, or started displaying a temperature the compartment plainly is not at, is one of the more alarming faults because the appliance appears to have lost its mind. In practice it resolves into four possibilities, and only one of them is the panel itself.

One: the appliance is in a mode, not broken
Sabbath mode, showroom or demonstration mode, and a control lock all make a panel behave as though it has failed — dark, unresponsive, or accepting nothing. Demonstration mode in particular is worth knowing about: a unit in it will light up and display normally while running no cooling at all. Anything that arrived from a showroom floor or has recently been through a long power interruption is worth eliminating here first, and it costs nothing to check.
Two: supply and the connection behind the unit
These columns are unhappy with marginal power. A loose neutral, a receptacle behind a built-in that has been quietly failing for years, or a shared circuit that browns out under a summer load will produce exactly this — intermittent panels, resets, and settings that do not stick. It presents as an electronic fault and is an electrical one, and the distinction is the difference between a plug check and a board.
Three: the panel, its ribbon and its harness
A touch panel connects to the control board through a ribbon or a plug behind the door liner. Moisture, a door that has been forced, or years of thermal cycling can degrade that connection, and the result is a display that flickers, responds in one region and not another, or drops out when the door moves. The connection is inspected before the assembly is condemned, because the assembly is the expensive part.
Four: the board, or the sensors it reads
Where the panel is genuinely reporting a wrong temperature rather than failing to respond, the fault is more likely to be a drifted thermistor than the display. Panel and board both get separated from the sensors with a meter, and whichever is actually wrong is the one that gets replaced.
